Val's Pals is a grassroots animal sanctuary in Buhl, Idaho. We're a small team of neighbors who show up every day for animals who have nowhere else to go.
Val's Pals started with a loss. Tequila โ Jordan's Australian Shepherd mix and the dog who had kept him grounded through some of the hardest years of his life โ was gone too soon. In the quiet that followed, Brittany went looking for her own companion. She found a litter of nine. Eight were blue or fawn. One was brindle, female, and the runt. She picked her up and never put her down. That dog became Valory.
Valory made pals everywhere she went. Every walk was an introduction โ pulling toward strangers, remembering neighbors, refusing to let anyone stay a stranger for long. She pulled Jordan back out into the world, and her name said everything: Valor-y, one L, named for her character. Val's Pals was already happening on every walk. It just needed a place. Brittany put it simply: Why are we waiting? Animals need help right now. So that's when it started.
Read Our StoryThese are the animals who made Val's Pals what it is. Each one has a name, a story, and a very strong opinion about where the best nap spot is.
She's the reason this place exists. A brindle American Staffordshire Terrier who was never put down once she was picked up. Val is the heart of everything here.
Handed over at Brittany's workplace with a bleeding nose and no backstory. Immediately identified that the 50-pound dog was scared of her and acted accordingly.
Found at the dog park. A man with a cat carrier. Two emaciated puppies. Jordan told Brittany to go get the wallet. That was that.
Three surgeries in three months. Came in barely hanging on. Now spends her days napping and escaping through a bungie-corded gate to visit the neighbor's perfect grass.
Mostly feral. Tolerates exactly one human (Jordan). Spends her days outside, avoiding capture, and delivering deceased wildlife as tribute.
Honorary family member who came with the move to Idaho. Sounds exactly like Yzma from The Emperor's New Groove. Has figured out he can bully Valory for her couch spot.
